Stabilising epoxy resins
Wood stabilization is a process whereby all the air is sucked out of the wood using a vacuum and resin is introduced into the wood in place of air. Regardless of the condition of the wood before the process (dry, decayed or infected by fungi), the special resin penetrates the entire volume of the log under alternating very high pressure and vacuum. The resin is then allowed to harden (polymerise) in the wood, thus stabilising the wood. At the same time, these resins are very easy to colour with suitable special dyes and therefore it is possible to create interesting and unusual coloured woods. Stabilized wood finds its use especially in manufacturers of knives, gun stocks, billiard cues, jewelry, unusual and luxurious pens, exclusive bows, etc.
